Had a great personal loss recently and have not had time nor the will to write lately. One, because of the emotional purge it means to lose a loved one and two, because it seems to be easier to live than to die in Barcelona. The amount of paperwork, red tape, taxes, banks, and lawyers involved in the process is enough to make you forget your grief. But don´t worry this essay will not be about mourning nor death. although, for a small note let me just say that life ain´t shit and it is all over in a second. you keep that in mind next time you worry too much about something.
Talking about worrying, I have been hearing about this swine flu going on and all the paranoia involved. The news said 64 people have died so far and as much as 1000 are infected. And all you hear on the street is people worrying about this hog virus. Mexicos turism has dropped 94% and people are freaking out. I did some research about the dead and all I could find were a couple of old people in Tijuana and two elderly women in Capital city. Now let me tell you that the common cold kills more people than that. Elders are fragile to new trends of flu because they have been inoculated with vaccines for years and their immune system is toasted. I may be mistaken but this all seems a new trick from pharmaceutical companies to get richer and richer if not them someone is.
Also I heard the US authorities did not allow Silvio Rodriguez to visit the country. All this crap about Obama changing things are not as quick as we all thought it would. Personally, I don´t like Silvio, apart from a couple of songs, but I do understand that he represents the voice of millions and that if nothing the guy can write good. Really good.
So the world don´t change much if you stop checking your mails for a while. It’s the same shit. But it will change…very soon.

Dear friend, I’m sorry to say but nothing will change. Pandemics, wars, injustices, and so on are in our DNA since the beginning …. What do you think will chance? … and how?

I agree with you 100%... my wife wanted to keep my son at home because his throat hurt this morning and she thought that it was better to be safe than sorry to send him to school. Now Excuse me, yes we live Florida USA, yes there have been cases of the hog flu in this state, but lets be real, how many? 2 kids over 800 miles away with a mild case..... come on!!!!! This is getting way out of hand. In the mean time, both my kids have had the common flu twice this year with not a hint of worry from their mother or anyone else for that matter. People are scared of what they do not know or fully understand and Nat is also right, it is in our DNA, but we need to get a grip on reality and this has nothing, Danny boy, nothing to do with Obama! Jeeeezzzz ... I need a bushmills!

I'm very sorry for your loss, Danny. Life is indeed a fragile wonder, and we must appreciate it and cherish it as such. And keep the legacy of those who have left us...
I find you're ALL right in your own ways, some things change and some seem not to. For instance, it's actually not a big surprise that they didn't give Silvio Rodriguez a visa for the States once more. But talking of Latin American lefties, it was certainly gratifying to see Obama gracefully accepting a book by Eduardo Galeano from the hands of Hugo Chavez a couple of weeks ago. Perhaps he was just caught off guard and he's not likely to read it anyway, especially since it was a copy in Spanish. But it's still a change: can you imagine Bush in the same situation? As far as I know, this little incident caused quite a rumpus from some Republicans, which is the predictable and unchanging part. And so life goes on: some evolution, some stagnation, some backlash. Not-so-anonymous from Florida ;) is right: people are scared of what they don't know or fully understand. My hope is that more and more of us are snapping out of such backward non-thinking...
Danny, so there is ONE way out of the swamp of no change? I'm curious, can't wait to read your next post...
